Board of Directors

TJ Burgess

Founder & Executive Director

TJ became a passionate pro-life advocate in late 2015. As he journeyed through the pro-life movement, he began to discover more about his own personal testimony. Additionally, he became a youth-programs intern at Louisiana Right to Life in the summer of 2017, and continued in that position until August of 2019.

Through networking with youth leaders, meeting outspoken pro-life advocates, attending dinners with elected leaders, and the like, TJ developed National Men for Life to be a source of strength and comfort for all men, including those impacted by abortion.

TJ, Matthew, Ashlen, and Alex, along with 2 other former board members, launched National Men for Life. During our development, Joseph and Brandon joined the Board of Directors and continue to thrive as valuable team members.

Brandon Buell

Executive Vice-President

Brandon's Son, Jaxon Buell, whose story became known as “Jaxon Strong”, was born on August 27, 2014 with an incurable neurological disorder. During the pregnancy, medical professionals suggested abortion as a solution, and it was stated that Jaxon may live only a few weeks and be significantly limited in his abilities. Jaxon is now four years old, and has undoubtedly surpassed the expectations and his original prognosis.

From the far-reaching impact that Jaxon’s life and story has created, Brandon has been blessed with the opportunity to become a Pro-Life published author and public speaker, delivering addresses and keynotes at various events including in Washington, D.C. and at the National Right to Life Convention on several occasions. Brandon has also met with members of the United States Congress to share the story of his son, and his Pro-Life stance.

Jacob Tonglet

A native of Harahan, LA and a current resident of Lafayette, LA, Jacob attended High School at Jesuit in New Orleans and graduated in 2013. He then went on to the University of Louisiana, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Business Administration in Economics.

Jacob has a vibrant social life with his friends from the Young Adult and Graduate Student

(YAGS) Bible Study. He has enjoyed a life of travel and credits his mission trips to Alaska serving the poor Native Eskimos as his fondest experiences. He is a huge New Orleans Saints and Pelicans fan.

Matthew Seymour

Director of Finance

Matthew became involved in the pro-life movement about four years ago through a youth meeting, PULSE, in which people from schools around the New Orleans area gather and discuss initiatives to further the pro-life cause in our communities. After attending that meeting, he became interested in what else PULSE had to offer, so he attended one of their pro-life camps. During the PULSE Immersion weekend, Matthew learned about the compassionate side of the pro-life movement and how to converse with people in crisis situations as well as those impacted by abortion.

Matthew said, "Although it’s great that we concentrated on treating women and the scars that abortion gave them with love and kindness, I never saw an organization that helped men and gave them a voice in the impact." That is until July of 2018, when he co-founded National Men for Life. He continues to raise his voice for the unborn and for women and men affected by abortion.

Joseph Hughes

Director of Administration

Joseph first became involved in the pro-life movement as a high school freshman when he joined his school’s chapter of Students for Life of America. Shortly after joining, he became heavily involved with the club’s presence on his campus and joined the leadership team, serving as the Secretary of the group during his junior year, and again as President his senior year.

Over the past three and a half years, Joseph has attended and volunteered for PULSE youth training camps. He joined the Board of Directors of National Men for Life in January of 2019.

Joseph currently attends the University of New Orleans, and serves as the Director of Administration at National Men for Life.

Alex Seghers

Director of Compliance

Alex co-founded National Men for Life, and serves as the Director of Compliance, keeping a balanced perspective as National Men for Life expands. She also serves as the Director of Education at Louisiana Right to Life. In this capacity, she focuses on a combination of medical ethics education, grassroots organizing, chapter development, and legislative affairs.

She studied at the University of Dallas, where she was an officer of the college’s pro-life club. She also represented the university at the Young America’s Foundation and Students for Life’s 2014 Pro-Life Student Leadership Summit Conference.

Alex received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from UD in 2015. She is completing a Certification with the National Catholic Bioethics Center and will be pursuing a Master’s degree in Bioethics.

She and her husband, Robert, have 1 child, Yvette Seghers.

Ashlen Sandoz

Outreach Advisor

Ashlen became a pro-life advocate and activist early in high school. She moved on to intern at Crossroads Pregnancy Resource Center, Louisiana Right to Life, and Rehumanize International. She was president of her college pro-life group at Nicholls from 2016-2018. Ashlen continues to be a dedicated activist fighting for the rights of all human beings.

Ashlen believes in empowering men to be partners that are supportive of life and good fathers. Men are uniquely impacted by abortion because they do not have the same legal rights to protect the life of their children as women do. Simultaneously, a common reason for choosing abortion is an unsupportive male partner.

In her time with National Men for Life, Ashlen hopes to create a space where men can heal from past abortions, and an environment where women don't feel pressured to choose the violent action of abortion, but where all human beings have an equal right to life.
